| No TrackBacks
In an attempt to save money, the NY MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) is planning on "reducing the eligibility of handicapped and elderly riders." reports that as of now, some riders who are only supposed to be picked up when the weather is extremely cold or hot, are still getting rides. The MTA hopes that by limiting their rides, and enforcing their weather rule, that will help them save money.

goes on to report that the MTA will offer special cards to wean the public off of Access-A-Ride vehicles. These cards would allow the person to ride in any yellow cab for a fee of $2.25. The rest of the fare would be paid by the MTA. The New York Post states that this practice should go into effect towards the end of February.

A previous article by reported that the large Access-A-Ride vans can be difficult for bikers if they are parked in the bike path. A spokeswoman for NYC Transit explained that, "due to traffic, drivers are often challenged to find safe locations to either pick up or drop off customers."
