Queens Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong, Almost Kills

Bad buttocks augmentations are back in the news. While this is not the first time we have heard of bad plastic surgeries, this story is particularly shocking. This tale of spa negligence has once again gained notoriety for New York personal injury attorneys, because the spa owner is being charged with assault and unlawful practice of medicine after she nearly killed a woman while giving her a butt augmentation.

Barbara Nieto was charged on Friday after nearly killing a customer, Augusta Velez, subsequent to a butt augmentation that went terribly wrong.

This incident took place at Barbara Nieto's spa located in Corona, Queens. The spa, Barbara Nieto's Perfect Image Stethics offered butt augmentation by taking fat from the stomach and having it injected into the buttocks area.

Sounds like a pretty simple medical procedure, right?

Sure it's simple. For a doctor. You see, the problem here is that a doctor didn't perform the procedure. Instead, the procedure was performed by a twenty-seven year old beautician.

Res ipsa loquitor, New York injury lawyers say.

The thing speaks for itself.

It's not just a random Latin phrase spouted by New York personal injury attorneys as they lay back in their leather recliners, smoking cigars, and sounding ever so smart. Rather, it's a legal theory used in personal injury which essentially says that the facts are so obvious that they speak for themselves.

Like the fact of having liposuction performed by a twenty-seven year old beautician. The liability here really speaks for itself.

Barbara Nieto was licensed by the State of New York to perform "appearance enhancement". Perhaps the State of New York should have been more diligent about spelling out the exact nature of the words "appearance enhancement", because Barbara Nieto clearly took those words in the broadest sense possible.

As a result of her misconception, or rather, her reckless disregard for human safety, Barbara Nieto caused her client to develop an abscess in the buttocks. This led to a high fever and required life-saving surgery.

In a separate case stemming from a butt augmentation at an Elmhurst spa, Tania Solis sued the Bell Stetika Spa for the injuries she sustained as a result of the treatment she received; although the injuries were nowhere near as grave as the ones suffered in the current case.

Interestingly, the NY Daily News reports that both Bell Stetika Spa and Perfect Image Stethics are both owned by Barbara Nieto, although our blog has yet to confirm whether or not this is accurate.
